44444Belarus and Russia should adequately react to the sanctions policy of the West, Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei said in Minsk on Tuesday at a joint meeting of the two countries’ Foreign Ministries’ collegiums.

“Belarus since 2011 is under European Union’s visa and financial restrictions. And now sanctions have been imposed on Russia,” the minister said.

“In essence, it’s a new configuration of relations that need an adequate reaction, the search for and implementation of balanced solutions for the future,” Makei said.

According to him, Belarus is “still certain that it is necessary to establish constructive interaction between the EU and Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) for the formation of the common economic and humanitarian space from Vladivostok to Lisbon.”

The Belarusian foreign minister also said that “in the conditions of the unprecedented in scale aggravation of differences with countries of the West, the Belarusian and Russian coordination of approaches to the work with the Organiяation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) acquires greater importance.” In particular, Makei said, Belarus and Russia should “counter the Western countries’ interference in internal affairs of states in the context of observance of human rights.
