Belarus needs stronger southern borders

2Belarus has to enhance the southern borders. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko made the statement as he received a report from Acting State Secretary of the Security Council Stanislav Zas and Defense Minister Andrei Ravkov on 18 August, BelTA has learned.

The head of state was informed about the state of affairs in the Belarusian army, primarily at the southern border. Alexander Lukashenko pointed out that too much had been talked about the matter recently and the so-called opposition mass media had presented some facts with a bias. “Nevertheless, we don’t hide the fact that we have to strengthen the southern borders. Not because we fear Ukrainians or an assault by anyone. We would like to prevent all kinds of things that Belarus doesn’t need and particularly weapons from reaching the country due to Ukrainian events. This concern should always be in our minds. It is a matter we have to handle. No one else will do the job for us,” noted Alexander Lukashenko.

Apart from that, the President was informed about progress in optimizing the Belarusian army. Attention was focused among other things on the creation of new weapons and new kinds of armaments in Belarus. The head of state was interested in learning whether everything was proceeding in accordance with the instructions set by a recent session of the Security Council.

Stanislav Zas told Alexander Lukashenko that the situation in the Belarusian army is stable. The moral and psychological state of the people is on the rise. The drain on officer personnel numbers, including young ones, is decreasing. This year’s admittance campaign to the Military Academy has been successful.
