Belarus is interested in the normalization of relations with Europe and the United States, but on a basis of equality and mutual respect, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Vladimir Andreichenko said in an interview to Belarus One TV channel, BelTA informs.
On 31 August-2 September Vladimir Andreichenko took part in the Fourth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament in New York. Speaking about the attitude of international organizations to Belarus amid the recent events in Ukraine, Vladimir Andreichenko said: “The relations have visibly improved. However, I cannot say that they have become perfect. We have made more contacts. We see favorable reports about Belarus in the foreign press. However, although we have always pursued a peaceful and friendly policy, our foreign counterparts have not noticed it before. Thus, it is early to make any conclusions. Time will show. Belarus’ position is known. It was voiced by the President of Belarus: we are interested in the normalization of relations both with Europe and the United States, but on a basis of equality and mutual respect.”
On the days of the World Conference of Speakers of Parliament Vladimir Andreichenko met with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon. “Mr Ban Ki-moon praised Belarus’ efforts to relax the tensions in Ukraine and took note of our country’s big work in combating modern threats and challenges,” the Speaker said.
According to Vladimir Andreichenko, it is necessary for everyone, regardless the nationality and confession, to unite in order to strengthen peace today. “If we have peace and order, we will be able to talk about the prosperity and development of the society and the future of our planet in general,” he stressed.
