Belarus calls upon the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea to secure the meticulous fulfillment of UN Security Council resolutions and to abstain from actions that can lead to escalation. The statement was made by Dmitry Mironchik, Head of the Information Office, Press Secretary of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, following the nuclear test performed by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea on 6 January, BelTA has learned.

The comment made by the representative of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reads: “Today the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea stated it has successfully carried out an underground hydrogen armament test. Unfortunately, such actions are in direct violation of resolutions of the UN Security Council.” “As one of the few countries that have voluntarily surrendered its nuclear weapons the Republic of Belarus has always been in favor of strengthening the international non-proliferation regime,” stressed Dmitry Mironchik.

“The Belarusian side is convinced that genuine and lasting peace as well as stability in the regional and international sense can be achieved only through negotiations, on the basis of partnership between nations and without reliance on weapons of mass destruction. We once again call upon the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea to guarantee the meticulous fulfillment of UN Security Council resolutions and to abstain from actions that can lead to escalation.”
