Thirteen Belarusian paratroopers jointly with contingents of the rapid deployment forces of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) member states were successfully air dropped on drifting ice floe in the Arctic Ocean in the immediate vicinity of the North Pole, for the first time in history.
The military were air dropped in the area with no reference points, with a high density of ice hummocks, in adverse weather and ice conditions.
The servicemen made parachute jumps with cargo containers weighing from 30 to 50 kg with the equipment necessary to conduct rescue and evacuation operations.
Later during the humanitarian search and rescue expedition the paratroopers will practise searching for and providing assistance to people who may suffer in expeditions, aircraft and ship accidents in extreme conditions of the Arctic Pole.
