2The unscheduled test of the combat readiness of the collective rapid response forces of the Collective Security Treaty Organization is related to the situation in Afghanistan, BelTA learned from CSTO Deputy Secretary General Valery Semerikov during a press conference in Moscow on 18 May. The test began on 12 May, with the forces being put on high alert and redeployed to Tajikistan.

According to the source, the situation in Afghanistan raises serious concerns in all the CSTO member states. The situation is being discussed at various levels and in different formats. Valery Semerikov said it was no accident that the CSTO collective rapid response forces had been redeployed to Tajikistan. The deployment of the troops for the sake of demonstrating military capability is one of the goals of the test.

Valery Semerikov said that results of the unscheduled test of the CSTO collective rapid response forces will not be disclosed to the public. The results will be discussed at a session of the CSTO Defense Ministers Council and then a report will be submitted for consideration of the CSTO heads of state.
